Visit Noah’s Ark Dog Sanctuary in Malta

Noahs Ark Dog Sanctuary in Malta - volunteer to walk dogs

One of the most important parts of becoming an expat is getting involved in your new local community. It’s why I talked about the coastal cleanup and World Oceans Day earlier this year. It’s also why I volunteered with the Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home back in Scotland. And it’s what brought us to Noah’s Ark Dog Sanctuary in Malta.

A Quick Rundown of Life in Malta

A quick rundown of life in Malta lately for expat writer Amanda Walkins

We’ve been crazy busy!! In the best sort of way, though. Since I simply don’t have the time right now to offer lots of in-depth insights into where we’ve been and what we’ve done (not to say I won’t find the time eventually!), here’s a quick rundown of life in Malta lately.

Being Present and Feeling Grateful

Living by the sea makes you stop and just be in the present moment. Having been an expat in many places, the sea is always the most welcoming and where I feel most grateful.

There’s a magic to living by the sea. I knew it when we lived in Roatan, but I don’t think I fully appreciated it. It’s one of my favorite parts of being a serial expat – I get to continuously learn about new places and then to share that insight with some of my favorite people. We’ve only been living in Malta for a few months, but already we’ve had a few visitors!

Daily Life as an Expat in Malta: Walking Around Qawra

Daily Life as an Expat in Malta - Walking Around Qawra

The area of Malta that we live in is called St. Paul’s Bay. It’s in the northern part of the island of Malta and is a more recently developed area, being primarily built up in the 1960s and later.

Part of this area is called Bugibba, which is the area we live in specifically. Alongside Bugibba is an area called Qawra, which is one of my favorite areas nearby for a run or a Sunday walk.

Come take a stroll with us and see why we love walking around Qawra!

Becoming an Expat is an Art Form

Moving overseas is a unique experience for every expat. While there are certain aspects that remain constant – the red tape, the loneliness, the financial questions – the daily details can be interpreted differently by each individual. That’s why becoming an expat is an art form. Your personal preferences and style may vary greatly from the next expat’s, but there is no right or wrong way to interpret and create your new life.
