Hey, guys, guess what? There’s a fantastic event happening on the island right now that you need to know about…even if you’re not visiting until June!

The 8th Annual Golden Buoy competition has officially begun. Benefiting the SOL Foundation, the Golden Buoy is a coveted award won by a dive shop each year for raising the most money for the organization. Beginning this weekend, dive shops will be hosting various events and competitions until June, when the Golden Buoy will be awarded after the Dive Shop Olympics.

Scheduled for June 6th, the Dive Shop Olympics will pit dive shops against each other in battles of will, strength, and probably their ability to drink a lot while staying vertical.

If you’re visiting Roatan between now and June 6th, you have a lot to look forward to! I’ll be posting events as they’re coming up so if you’re visiting soon, be sure to connect with me for more info!

This Friday, May 1st, the very first event of 2015 will be kicked-off in West End, hosted by Native Sons Dive Shop. Located at Chillies hotel just across from Half Moon Bay, Native Sons is one of the oldest and most well-respected shops on Roatan. And they came up with a fabulous event (click to enlarge):

That’s right, folks! This Friday evening, West End will be filled with Three-Legged Drunks…all in support of the island. With five different bars participating in the fun, I’m sure this will be an entertaining event whether you’re participating or merely observing. Though either way, I hope you ante up and donate to an amazing cause.

More about SOL Foundation

The SOL (School of Life) International Foundation works to initiate and support community-based programs designed to promote education and to increase the quality of life in developing areas. Through the support of grants and fundraisers like the Golden Buoy, SOL focuses on enhancing the standards of education, arts, and athletics in lesser developed areas.

SOL also raises money through its adult co-ed softball league, through the annual Music Festival for the Angels, and through other fundraisers throughout the year. The work they do for the island’s families is amazing – be sure to check out their website to see some of the specific programs they’re working on now: http://solroatan.org/

If you’re visiting Roatan between now and June 6th, be sure you’re subscribed to the blog and also connect with me on Facebook so you don’t miss out on any of these fabulous events. Some others that are in the works now include a golf tournament and a horseshoes tournament! How cool is that?! All in the name of fundraising, so be sure you do what you can to give back to this amazing community.
