Women in Travel Summit WITS logo

I recently spent a week in Portland, Maine, at the Women in Travel Summit (WITS) travel conference. To say I felt right at home would be a complete understatement! Joining together with several hundred fellow travel addicts for multiple days of inclusive seminars was a breath of fresh air I didn’t even realize I needed.

2018 year in review expat blogger amanda walkins

Success is an interesting term for a year in which I blogged here precisely three times (this one included). By those numbers, this was not at all a successful year! But by many other standards, 2018 was a year of success for me both personally and professionally.

Our repat journey begins...back to the USA

Two years ago, we landed in the U.S. for a two-month visit with my family and friends. That’s the longest amount of time we’ve ever spent here together. But this time around, we will be here for potentially six months. This is the longest I’ve spent in Massachusetts since I was 18 years old! So, here we are. We’ve arrived. We’re making plans. what is a global neighbor

In the wake of an election season that has rocked the entire world, unity has never been more important. We need to find ways to support each other – not rip each other apart. We need to offer solidarity – not division. We need to celebrate our wonderful differences and recognize the similarities we share with each other.

An American Expat Perspective on the Election

American expat 2016 election

If you are American, becoming an expat doesn’t cut you off from your home country. In fact, the U.S. is one of only two countries that taxes all its citizens, regardless of residency. So, despite the fact that I’ve been chastised on social media for speaking about the election results because I ‘left my country’, I’m going to give my perspective. Because my voice matters. And because there are millions of American expats around the world whose voices also matter. I just happen to have a blog.
