Our repat journey begins...back to the USA

Two years ago, we landed in the U.S. for a two-month visit with my family and friends. That’s the longest amount of time we’ve ever spent here together. But this time around, we will be here for potentially six months. This is the longest I’ve spent in Massachusetts since I was 18 years old! So, here we are. We’ve arrived. We’re making plans. This is our repat journey…

Being Present and Feeling Grateful

Living by the sea makes you stop and just be in the present moment. Having been an expat in many places, the sea is always the most welcoming and where I feel most grateful.

There’s a magic to living by the sea. I knew it when we lived in Roatan, but I don’t think I fully appreciated it. Despite my constant raving about expat life on the island and encouraging everyone and their mother to live wherever makes them happy, I look back now and wonder if I was truly present and appreciative of the extraordinary circumstances of our life there.

We've done so much in such a short amount of time. That's how quickly life can change!

We’re a week into May now and I was just looking at some photos from the past few weeks. In the past month, we went from an expat failure in Ireland to loving life in Malta. We left cold, wet weather to come to endless sunshine. We changed from layers and layers of winter clothes to dressing like normal humans again. Oh, how quickly life can change!

what is a global neighbor

In the wake of an election season that has rocked the entire world, unity has never been more important. We need to find ways to support each other – not rip each other apart. We need to offer solidarity – not division. We need to celebrate our wonderful differences and recognize the similarities we share with each other.

in defense of expat life

Before you take your excited leap into expat life, there’s something you need to realize about becoming an expat. Unfortunately, it actually has very little to do with you and a whole lot to do with the people you leave back home. Here’s the problem you will face: You will have to constantly speak up in defense of expat life. You will have to offer explanations and information, personal details and perhaps intimate insights. You will have to regularly deal with people questioning your lifestyle and your choices.

Before you take your excited leap into expat life, there's something you need to realize about becoming an expat. Unfort...

Earn a living being happy

I saw a video the other day and something struck me as particularly ironic. Most people viewing that video will chuckle, marvel at how unique the person is, and then carry on with their days. Most people will not look at this video and feel inspired to follow their passions. But I think it’s the most important part of this particular video.

Love, Happiness, and Adventure: My Year in Review

Date Posted: December 29, 2015

It’s the end of December, so we all know what that means. It’s time to reflect on moments from this year and to make plans and goals for next year. But I’d rather not plan and goal-set; I’d rather just see what happens as it happens and be grateful for each moment as I live it.
