How to get UK residency for a US citizen through marriage

Moving to new countries comes with a whole range of logistics to figure out and to check off a list. But by far the most important part of becoming an expat is the legal requirements involved. These are the details I can offer for how this US citizen got UK residency through marriage to an EU National. Please keep in mind that my experience will be different from yours, but this can at least offer a guideline from my perspective.

In the wake of an election season that has rocked the entire world, unity has never been more important. We need to find ways to support each other – not rip each other apart. We need to offer solidarity – not division. We need to celebrate our wonderful differences and recognize the similarities we share with each other.

If you think that she was just a dog, then I wonder what you think of us. The sobs still wrack our bodies and endless tears still sear our cheeks each day.

It’s the moment we open our eyes to suddenly remember that – No, we don’t need to get out of bed and bring her outside. It’s the moment we come home to be greeted by scathing silence. It’s the moment that we realize our patterns, our routines, our favorite things to do each day no longer exist.

If you think that she was just a dog, then I wonder what you think of us. The sobs still wrack our bodies and endless te...

Having just gone through this process myself, I thought it only appropriate I pass along my newfound knowledge as a US citizen married in Scotland. While I was married in Scotland and the rules do differ slightly for the rest of the UK, this is at least the basic outline of steps you could expect everywhere.

travel blog 2016

I’ve been incredibly quiet over here and I have to apologize for that! We’ve been transitioning to a new home, complete with trying to create a new routine while receiving endless Amazon deliveries. In all of that, I’ve been trying to stay afloat on clients’ projects and had to neglect this little piece of the interwebs. Apologies all around!

Love, Happiness, and Adventure: My Year in Review

Date Posted: December 29, 2015

It’s the end of December, so we all know what that means. It’s time to reflect on moments from this year and to make plans and goals for next year. But I’d rather not plan and goal-set; I’d rather just see what happens as it happens and be grateful for each moment as I live it.
