2018 year in review expat blogger amanda walkins

Success is an interesting term for a year in which I blogged here precisely three times (this one included). By those numbers, this was not at all a successful year! But by many other standards, 2018 was a year of success for me both personally and professionally.

Six Years of This Accidental Expat Life

expat life over 6 years in 7 countries

Six years ago, I hopped onto an early morning flight in freezing cold Boston and headed south. I impatiently waited as they de-iced our plane and promised myself only sunshine and warmth from then on. I may have reneged on that promise a few times over these past few years, but overall, six years of this accidental expat life have certainly been pretty damn good to me.

Ever Onward, My Friends

I’ve not written much on the blog this year. It’s safe to say that 2016 was not my favorite and left me less than enthusiastic in many respects. While we had wonderful moments this year, we also had absolutely terrible ones. But, instead of going through each memory like I normally love to do, this year I prefer to look forward to what I hope will be better.

travel blog 2016

I’ve been incredibly quiet over here and I have to apologize for that! We’ve been transitioning to a new home, complete with trying to create a new routine while receiving endless Amazon deliveries. In all of that, I’ve been trying to stay afloat on clients’ projects and had to neglect this little piece of the interwebs. Apologies all around!

Love, Happiness, and Adventure: My Year in Review

It’s the end of December, so we all know what that means. It’s time to reflect on moments from this year and to make plans and goals for next year. But I’d rather not plan and goal-set; I’d rather just see what happens as it happens and be grateful for each moment as I live it.

Roatan House Hunters International

This week marks my three year anniversary of a new life. It’s been three years since I arrived in Roatan, Honduras. It’s been three years since I met my Irish-Colombian on West Bay Beach. It’s been three years since we moved in together. It’s been three years since we went to the gas station and came home with a little furball. All that happened in just over a week! It’s been three years of life well lived, love fearlessly shared, and so many incredible adventures. Here’s to looking back and to moving forward.

Jonathan Clarkin

Two years ago, I hopped on a plane from Boston to San Pedro Sula. The goal was to backpack through Honduras and Guatemala for six weeks, ideally finding somewhere I wanted to live and work. But realistically I thought I’d have a great six weeks, and then figure out where to go next.
