Another annual Roatan event is happening this week, so make sure to take advantage of the festivities if you’re headed to the island! The Roatan International Fishing Tournament takes place every September over the holiday weekend. West End provides a weekend carnival and fishermen from around the world descend upon the waters around Roatan to compete for prizes and recognition.

This year, the tournament is even incorporating a Lionfish Derby into the festivities, offering prizes to the best hunters who can annihilate this threat to our Caribbean reef. The Lionfish Derby is scheduled for September 12th, which is also the first day of regular fishing for the catch and release tournament. The Roatan Marine Park is continuing its outstanding efforts at conservation and protection of the natural underwater wonders in organizing this event. Be sure to support the Roatan Marine Park during your visit!

The Roatan International Fishing Tournament is now in its 16th year, and 2015 is the 6th year of catch-and-release. The tournament is an Offshore World Championship qualifying event, and its continued growth has established it as one of the premier fishing events in the entire region.
