Arrivals and Plans…Our Repat Journey

Date Posted: October 30, 2017

Two years ago, we landed in the U.S. for a two-month visit with my family and friends. That’s the longest amount of time we’ve ever spent here together. But this time around, we will be here for potentially six months. This is the longest I’ve spent in Massachusetts since I was 18 years old! So, here we are. We’ve arrived. We’re making plans. This is our repat journey…

If you bring an Irishman to Beantown…

If you bring an Irishman to Beantown, he’s going to want to see it all. ALL OF IT. Of course, you will not have time to see all of it (case in point, my mother has lived in and around Boston for the better part of *cough* many years – I won’t throw her under the bus here – and she has yet to see many of the sites in the city. Oh Canada! Arrival, Reunions, and a Wedding all in one weekend

It’s Sunday. We just sat in a car for nine hours. We’ve been in four countries in the last three days. And it has been AWESOME.

I can’t possibly ever put into words exactly how amazing it feels to see friends and family after being away for a while. In fact, it could just be a few weeks – hell even a few days – and I’m ecstatic. Especially my family. If you don’t know them, you’re missing out. I have some of the most incredible individuals to claim as my own and I appreciate them more and more each time I see them. I am unbelievably lucky!

In an age of 24/7 news cycles and breaking news being Tweeted in real-time, I have to admit I’m pretty far outside the loop here on my little island. I lived in Washington, DC, for 4 years before coming here. Living in DC means staying up-to-date on Congressional subcommittee hearings and knowing the latest gossip about Congressional staffers. It’s being way too involved in the mundane details of professional politicians.
