Moving to a New Country

It’s fair to say we’ve bounced around quite a bit in recent years. Moving to a new country has become second-nature to us now. We have our little routines and requirements to meet before we feel at home, which helps us to easily slip into daily life in new places all the time.

We’ve been housesitting with TrustedHousesitters for more than two years now and we continue to love our experiences, so I wanted to share more in-depth here. Housesitting in Edinburgh has offered us interesting and varied experiences between having our own apartments in the area. We have stayed by the sea and in city center. We have also stayed outside the city, including on the estate of a 15th century castle!

To give you an idea of what housesitting or petsitting with TrustedHousesitters actually looks like, here’s a glimpse into our Edinburgh experiences thus far over the past year.

2018 year in review expat blogger amanda walkins

Success is an interesting term for a year in which I blogged here precisely three times (this one included). By those numbers, this was not at all a successful year! But by many other standards, 2018 was a year of success for me both personally and professionally.

expat life over 6 years in 7 countries

Six years ago, I hopped onto an early morning flight in freezing cold Boston and headed south. I impatiently waited as they de-iced our plane and promised myself only sunshine and warmth from then on. I may have reneged on that promise a few times over these past few years, but overall, six years of this accidental expat life have certainly been pretty damn good to me.

taking time away from my blog

Oh hello there, long lost blog! It’s been a while…but no apologies here. I’ve been busy moving around, celebrating major events with family and friends in different countries, and overall just not at all attached to this here lil ole blog.

See the thing is, doing anything for five years straight can make you feel a little run down. But doing an extensive amount of work for free for five years straight will certainly make you question your sanity! So, after five full years of blogging here, I took some time away.

Our repat journey begins...back to the USA

Two years ago, we landed in the U.S. for a two-month visit with my family and friends. That’s the longest amount of time we’ve ever spent here together. But this time around, we will be here for potentially six months. This is the longest I’ve spent in Massachusetts since I was 18 years old! So, here we are. We’ve arrived. We’re making plans. This is our repat journey…
