Moving to a new country can be daunting…finding new friends, figuring out which items you like from the grocery store, hell, just finding a grocery store can be a challenge! You’ve uprooted yourself and plopped down into a whole new environment. Luckily, for an American expat in Scotland, the transition really actually isn’t that hard.

Edinburgh 101 castle city view

Having already visited Scotland twice in as many years, I’ve spent enough time in Edinburgh to have a vague map of the city in mind. I knew that old town and new town combined into a still fairly small city – the mostly residential areas notwithstanding. I also knew how to get into and around the city for the most part.
